Ok I know math applies to me no matter what my major is, but I still wish I didn't have to take it. Even though I always do a good job in the subject, it takes me longer to understand a problem and if I don't have someone to help me understand then my brain shuts down completetly. Ugh, the whole math thing just gets me sad...
Don't let math make you sad, Alona. If I can be of any assistance, let me know. I taught math in the Dominican Republic for a bit.
ReplyDeleteI do wish that we could make our approach to subjects more practical. Although the standard math courses are good for developing problem-solving and critical thinking skills, I would love it if people could graduate from high school with a knowledge of how to read stock statements, how to balance a budget, how to create a profitable investment strategy, etc.

i think almost everyone can relate to you on the matter. math can be extremely frustrating. i dont know if its the same for you as it is for me, but it feels alot more rewarding to solve a math problem than to figure out where the verb is or know dates in history. dont worry youll get through it and feel a lot better
ReplyDeleteUGH! I know what you mean. By me being an accounting major I have loads of math 2 do. Right now I'm in a combo Math and it is really fast paced and kicking my butt. I really like Math but doing it every day makes me dread it a bit. Hang in there girl, at least you won't have to spend half of your life on it like me.
ReplyDeleteI definitely understand what you mean. My dad always tells me that I should go into finance because I'm good at math....& it's like, I'm only good at math AFTER I sit there and struggle with it forever. I took College Alg last semester, and I had to go in with a good attitude, because that's the only way I could allow myself to do well. If you attack something with a good attitude, your chances at success will probably be a lot higher. Good luck and don't let it get you down!! :)
ReplyDeleteI can agree that it doesn't make much sense for the university to require some of the gen. ed. courses for our majors. Some of the classes we are forced to take will never apply to our major. And we all have a subject that we hate. Mine is chemistry...
ReplyDeleteAgreed!!! I am a Fashion Merchandising major with a minor in Dance and Marketing Management. No where in my field of work will I be required to do algebra or use any type of science!!! I have yet to take these classes (lol) being I really DON'T want to take them!!! I don't think we should have to take these types of courses in college if we successfully completed them in high school.
